How to move on from a break up in a healthy way


It takes a lot of effort to make a relationship work out. Unfortunately, no matter how hard you try, some romantic relationships will come to an end, whether that's because of a dramatic altercation or something less volatile like a natural drifting apart. Whatever the reason for the break up, moving on is not easy. But this doesn't mean that you have to keep beating yourself up because of a failed relationship—a chapter closed can spell the beginning of a new exciting chapter in your life. So how exactly can you heal the pain that comes with a break up and move on in a healthy way?

Talk to a professional. When you are in a relationship with somebody for a long time, they become a huge part of your whole life. This means that you are likely to have memories of them that are associated with friends and family, and so talking through the intricacies of your break up might seem like a very difficult task with those friends. To gain a little objectivity over your situation and vent about your break up in a safe space, it can be a good idea to seek out professional counselling at a clinic like Inner Dimensions. Practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is a buzz word in the healthcare world at the moment, but it's not just marketing—it produces real results. It might sound counterintuitive to lean into your pain, but if you can't acknowledge the emotions you are feeling, you will only be masking them. Start exercising. Most people know that they should be exercising regularly for the sake of their physical health, but it's a great tool to have in your arsenal when you are having emotional problems as well. When you exercise, endorphins are released; these are happy hormones that improve your mood. Instead of reaching for a tub of ice cream and a bottle of wine, which are only going to give you a sugar crash, a sore head, and an unclear outlook on things, strap on your running shoes and hit the park.

Learn more so you can earn more

As an adult learning educator, I only have students who want to learn. If anyone is not feeling enthusiastic, I let them know how much more they'll be able to earn once they've completed my course.
